Dr. Philip Filbrandt is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist. The learning objectives for this Virtual Grand Round are to identify three actions to prevent altitude sickness and understand the cause of altitude sickness. Participants will learn to identify the options for acute mountain sickness (AMS), including HACE (high altitude cerebral edema) and HAPE (high altitude pulmonary edema). Other learning objectives include distinguishing between heat exhaustion and heat stroke alongside discussing treatments. Finally, participants will understand the treatment for hypothermia on the trail. The presentation will be highlighted by personal wilderness adventures and recent Wilderness Medical Training.
